This is the special April MUSEletter announcement I've been looking forward to sharing since around February of 2024. 

–Why?

It's a manifestation of my most ambitious project yet. Not in terms of comics, though I feel quite good about the work that'll be appearing in this project. Also not just because I get to work with a writer I admire and I get to do so hand-in-hand with a pretty legendary literary agent. I'll explain a little further down but first, comics –

This comic came to me while meditating on a theme. The theme had to do with a journey as well as a chance encounter along the way. Being outside at the time, in the company of my dog I sought to distill these concepts down to their essence. The simplest of journeys I thought to myself - like a leaf on a breeze or the journey of a drop of rain. That's the idea that stuck - 

Easter Egg: page one (panel 5) features the secret un-announced (until now) cross-over between Let's Go: A Kids Comics Studio Anthology and our Go Doggo star! He has a walk-on (bound? trott? bounce-on?) role in this story. In other words; our Milo makes a brief splash.

That's not all. I've also been afforded the privilege of illustrating a second even more experimental comic story written by legendary comic writer David Quinn. Those who know comics will know the name, for those who aren't recalling, let's just say we can thank David for the excellent characterization of Wong we've all enjoyed over the course of two Doctor Strange movies as well as a bunch of comics. In keeping with other recent projects - this comic is also very musically inspired. So that's two reasons to support this next project - BUT there's more!

Thirty-one contributors ranging from seasoned authors to debut  author-illustrators from around the world have gathered to assemble this first-of-its-kind comic anthology; Let’s Go!

Driven by a “learn by doing” ethos we've come up with a truly unique (and probably overly complicated) method for bringing this project to life. It's the most collective method for creating a project I've been a part of in a very long time - I can't think of another publishing endeavor that's been so non-hierarchical. While these processes brought their own stresses, it's that organic, improvisational emergence that makes this project unique. Individually, we may have notions about this project, but none of us truly knows what it will look like once fully realized. 

Example: along with the cover artist, the above graphic reflects the work of about a dozen members from this project in the form of three committees. I'm a member of two of them.

I've attended hundreds of hours of meetings and written & read easily as many emails about this project. The campaign to crowdfund this comic anthology will represent the most intensive stress-testing of the marketing/campaign theories & methodologies I've been developing over the past 3 - 4 years on PatrickLugo.com
