I bet you and I both know we can expect (or look forward to) a deluge of Spooky Season themed emails. Not wanting to disappoint, I'm releasing a special new comic for the occasion. It' a concept I've been contemplating for a while now – once you see the source of its inspiration (after the comic), you may understand why it's taken me so long to find a way to do it right.

But before that I want to welcome new subscribers. Remarkably, there’s an ongoing up-tick in the number of folk's who’ve joined this MUSEletter mailing list – so welcome. I'm excited to let you know THE COMICS FU SHOW will be coming back for a couple of special episodes. First we'll be featuring the latest Wuxia comic to strike Kickstarter. Zhao vol. 1: an epic 200-page graphic novel steeped in historical fiction, chronicling the legendary saga of the Spear-Master of the Zhao Clan.

Then, we've scheduled a very special live stream for Tuesday October 17th at 8:00pm PST

Sequential art is more than just making comics, it is essential in movie making and in editorial instruction. A cartoon can simply be a funny drawing, but sequential art relies on the use of multiple images in a sequence to tell a story or achieve an effect. There are many written and unwritten rules to doing that effectively and in this session we will cover those often overlooked essential rules and conventions which can make or break the story-telling of an image sequence.

I'll be presenting this breakout session at 10:25am October 21, 2023; as a part of the S.C.B.W.I. Oktoberfest. Check out my entry on their faculty page.

I'm excited to attend, though while I'd love the chance to see my old pal in person, I may have to opt to listen in from the drawing table. I'll have just spent the whole of the previous day at the S.C.B.W.I. event. The master does not approve of unsupervised (by him) absences from the art room – time outside should be spent on the hunt. Remarkably, a contented dog  makes for progress.
