Alas, I've missed my deadline; instead you're reading it during August's 3rd week. That's not the only ball I dropped, I had to reschedule a podcast appearance to later in the month as well. So what happened?

Post San Diego Comic-Con cost me an extra week of recovery. After 4 years of Novid I came home and tested positive; how annoying. Still, one must express gratitude for not having had it worse. So, let me catch you up on what you'll find within this missive –

Notes on San Diego Comic-Con

I brought a laptop, ipad with keyboard, my phone and a sketch-book; of course. Depending on the circumstances, I used any one (or several) of these tools for taking notes. One set of note turned out to be particularly unique. I happened to sit in on what turned out to be a sort of university level lecture on illustration. The presentation was titled Composition and Layout Design for Comics and Illustrations presented by Ron Lemen a professional artist. He's worked in various industries for various clientele including Sony Entertainment, Blizzard, Wizards of the Coast, Disney Entertainment, Marvel Comics, Lucas Arts, Universal Pictures, and more.

At some point in the near future I'll have to revisit these notes (and accompanying photos, not shown) and engage in a thorough distillation of what was presented. I think, if I write them back out and actually do the exercises recommend, I'd end up leveling up my illustration skills and maybe come away with a portfolio piece.

To quote my Pa - "we'll see what happens."

Breaking Into the Comic Book Industry (A Free Event) is being hosted by Comics Experience on Monday, August 26th at 8:00 pm EST This learning community has been essential to my recent career growth and this session will explain all the different options you have to build a career in comics and give you the perspective to make better choices about your comic career. So if you're curious, join us and invite friends and colleagues who might also benefit from this discussion. Bring something to write one because these session always live you with something useful; I promise.

In previous MUSEletter Missives I've made mention of the evolution of this project. I initially joined the Asani Entertainment team as a production designer on their debut comic. Since then, I've remained as a content coordinator & campaign consultant. So. if you'd like to do me a favor, click on over to this campaign's pre-launch page and hit their Notify Me On Launch button. This way the folks at Asani Entertainment can see that they made the right choice in hiring me on. It's an exciting new field for me and I'm hopeful for a handful of more clients who will place equal value on the sort of work I'm doing here.

These recent posts only scratched the surface of what I encountered at San Diego Comic-Con. My official KungFuMagazine.com review of the con should also be appearing this week - watch the socials for when. There remains a couple of one-on-one interviews to submit.
